Blogtronix released today Sharetronix 1.5, an advanced version of its superior enterprise-based open source microblogging software. Sharetronix powers over 10,000 communities in 125 countries.  The price for a commercial perpetual license is $499 for unlimited users.

Sharetronix has improved and optimized its core microblogging offerings of social networking; activity feeds; real-time dashboard; multimedia support (text, links, pictures, videos, and other file types such as Zip, PDF etc.); tagging; RSS aggregation; advanced search (for content, user profiles, and groups); and system administration.

The new Sharetronix capabilities include APIs for developers with Twitter compatibility; LDAP integration; private groups; public groups; message resharing; real-time integration with PubSubHubBub protocol; SSO with Facebook and Twitter; content sharing with FB, Twitter, Buzz, and Delicious; Twitter feed aggregation; member invitations from gmail, Yahoo!, Facebook, Twitter accounts; theme engine; and mobile UI optimized for smartphones.

In addition, Sharetronix 1.5 can be deployed on Microsoft Windows servers with PHP support; offers support for TweetDeck; has automatic administrative notifications for updates and upgrades; and has a translation center that has enabled the community to fully convert the software in 24 languages to date.

Sharetronix 1.5 is available for download under two licenses: a paid and a free version.  A Commercial License is intended for business use and the perpetual purchase includes updates and upgrades for one year; after the first year, customers can purchase an annual support agreement in order to receive software updates. A Personal License is allowed for personal (non-business related) use only and it offers community web support.  

In the microblogging enterprise space, Sharetronix competes with Yammer, Chatter, Socialtext, and Present.ly although they do not offer the benefits of open source.  Further, unlike Yammer and Chatter, which only offers hosted SaaS, Sharetronix allows its customers to download the software behind a firewall and unlike Socialtext, it supports multimedia.  StatusNet is another strong competitor in the enterprise open source microblogging market; however, StatusNet does not offer multimedia support like Sharetronix.

Founded in 2005 and based in Berkeley, CA, Blogtronix was one of the first social media companies to offer an enterprise-based social software suite.

Social engagement is the endgame for our platform and we deliver in a variety of ways. Improve vendor relations by creating a presence where your clients can get timely information and collateral. Create a community of interest based on a specific topic and provide good content that people find interesting and timely. The possibilities are numerous, so today I would like to focus on my favorite which everyone lives with on a daily basis, internal collaboration and communication within your organization.

Blogtronix is a typically diverse organization. Like most of you that are reading this, we have employees that are literally based all over the world. A company meeting for Blogtronix means that someone is missing dinner, sleep, or sacrificing family time for the betterment of our company mission.

Who are the early adapters of our enterprise solution? If you have been reading our blog or have any previous knowledge about BTX, you would know that our CEO, Vassil Mladjov, is an early technology adopter. He can be very critical at times, but when he called everybody in for a two-day all-hands staff meeting at the company headquarters in Berkeley CA at the end of last year, he announced that we'd be using our own solution moving forward. The edict was no internal email. The goal is to communicate and collaborate using Blogtronix. ”Let’s utilize what we are developing and make changes as we see fit, that is the only way to really understand what our customers want & improve our solution.” Vassil said.

Since this groundbreaking meeting, the way Blogtronix operates has been completely transformed. Our software is VERY robust including all the tools you would come to expect from a true social engagement platform.  I can offer several examples of how my daily work routine has changed for the better, but I would like to focus on a simple business problem that everyone can understand and that is dealing with documents. As I have previously explained, our solution has many tools…Blogs and forums have easily replaced email, but hasn’t everyone felt the pain of documents? Is this the most recent marketing collateral? Did Julian send me the latest revision or did Phil change it last night? The pain goes on and on……

The usual way businesses collaborate on documents is by swapping them around as e-mail attachments, but that has several limitations. Somebody has to keep track of which is the latest version of the document. If multiple people are collaborating on the same document simultaneously, somebody's got to merge all the changes together, which is time-consuming. The whole process is fraught with error.

The Blogtronix platform allows you have one copy of the document that lives on the Web, and everybody makes their changes to that document, so there's no need to keep track of the latest version. Multiple people can edit the same document simultaneously. They can even do the edits in real-time -- you can get on the phone with a colleague in another country, both have the same document open in front of them, and, as one person makes changes, the other person sees the changes as they happen. This is true collaboration and is invaluable to the people that really get it.

Blogtronix provides the document repository and a whole lot more. It also offers threaded discussions, like the comments on this blog. Why is this way too late and again not very well thought out by MSFT?!

1.       We are talking here about Outlook 2010, they should have named it Outthedoor 2013.  By the time real companies (with CIO that are not on MSFT payroll) start using this will be late 2014. Most of my enterprise customers today in 2010 have IE6 as their only corporate browser.

2.       Most big companies block Facebook, Google and the rest of the social sites by default, who cares if they have a FB connection in their outlook.

3.       You still need Sharepoint 2010 if you want to use this internally (I am 99% sure) and than again who is crazy to jump on this as most are now starting to roll out MOSS (2007)

4.       The plugin looks like a bad photoshop to me.

5.       Again they are way too lateBlogtronix will be rolling out our 2003/2007 outlook plugin and will be a head of MSFT once again ;)
